The project will create a platform for performances, workshops and composer residencies with the best new music repertoire and top European ensembles. It will also establish a permanent network between european composers, ensembles, music centres, composer societies and copyright associations.
It consists of 12 international partners and 22 top ensembles in 11 european countries, involving 176 og Europe´s best new music works each year.
The Re:new Music project is initiated by the Danish Composers´ Society and the first project period runs from November 2008 through to October 31 2010.
RE:NEW MUSIC activities run along three main lines:
1. Ensemble projects
Performances, rehearsals, workshops, and composer residencies with the best of european new music ensembles.
22 european ensembles will establish a repertoire pool by selecting eight of the best pieces from their own repertoire by living composers from their own country. Pieces will be chosen from this pool and each ensemble will build two projects a year around them.
RE:NEW MUSIC offers an opportunity to finance the rehearsing and performance of the chosen pieces, as well as composer residencies, workshops and seminars. Close cooperation with all partners as well as with festivals, concert presenters, radiobroadcasters and publishers regarding the repertoire, recidencies and workshops is key to the projects implementation.
2. Permanent partner network
The unique partner structure in RE:NEW MUSIC brings together composer societies, music information centres and copyright associations across the project’s 11 european countries. The diversity of the group creates exciting possibilities to establish a dynamic networking platform on which topics of common interest for the partners and their respective music environments can be discussed and common action taken.
During the first project period, a number of seminars are planned, and external networking partners will be invited into this proces.
3. Web platform
The RE:NEW MUSIC website is designed to bring all the partners and ensembles together in a dynamic web 2.0 environment. There will be presentations of partners, ensembles, composers, festivals and other external collaborators, as well as project activities and interactive possibilities. The RE:NEW MUSIC web will be launched on April 1 2009.
